Distress Centre Niagara 4th Annual Walk for Suicide Prevention

The 4th Annual Walk for Suicide Prevention, as part of International Suicide Prevention Week was held September 13th at the Grantham Lions Club on Niagara Street. After the remembrance ceremony, there was a walk that was kicked off with warm up exercise led by Balance Fitness Studio. And then they were off….nearly 100 walkers—adults, kids and K-9s took part in the 5 km walk along the scenic canal path starting at Lock 1 and turning back at Lock 2. A family BBQ with live entertainment by the band Solstice was enjoyed by the participants on return from the Walk. All proceeds go to support the Distress Centre’s 24 hour Crisis Line. Last year over 10,730 calls were answered by trained volunteers. That's over 8,000 volunteer hours!
