Hit Balls for Cancer
For the past 16 years, on the first and longest day of summer, CPGA golf pro Rick Hill has hit balls for cancer. He did it again this year hosting the 17th Annual Hit Balls for Cancer Marathon at the Niagara Sports Practice Centre in NOTL. Usually Rick fundraises and hits 1,220 golf balls himself, but this year due to stage 4 prostate cancer that has spread to his right shoulder, he was unable to hit them all himself so he enlisted help from some friends. Rick hit 65 balls himself, one for every year he has been alive but together with his friends, they exceeded Rick’s goal and hit 1,503 balls and raised $3,312 for the Niagara Region Cancer Society. A great big thank-you goes out to all the people that helped Rick fundraise and to the Niagara Sports Practice Centre who supplied the venue and the ammunition to complete the task at hand!
