Niagara Moon Festival
The Chinese Moon Festival is on the 15th of the 8th lunar month. It's also known as the Mid-autumn Festival. Chinese culture is deeply imbedded in traditional festivals. The Moon Festival is one of the most important traditional events for the Chinese communities when families get together to watch the full moon rising, sing and eat moon cakes which are the highlight of the festival symbolizing family unity. On September 24 the Chinese communities from across the Niagara Region and beyond celebrated the Moon Festival at the Grantham Lions Club, St. Catharines. The day’s festivities included a kid’s play area, ethnic dancing, live music, Chinese acrobats, food, vendors and martial arts demonstrations and much more. The event also served as a fundraising drive for UNICEF and was opened to the general public. The Canada Philippines Business Council in co-operation with the Chinese Cultural Association of Regional Niagara joined in the Moon festivities. View more event photos at http://snapd.at/peandk
